Yes, approximately 1 in 4 school-aged children have an undetected or uncorrected vision problem, often due to lack of screenings, cost barriers, or asymptomatic conditions. Most of these vision problems are easily fixed.
Common issues include refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) and amblyopia (lazy eye), which can hinder academic success if not treated with glasses or therapy.

Davey's Angels is dedicated to changing and shaping lives by helping to provide early eye care and intervention to students who lack access to vision insurance. We believe that addressing these needs offers a vital solution to some of our society’s most significant challenges.
Our goal is to educate, collaborate, and provide essential services to build a better future.

Consequences of No Treatment
Untreated vision problems can lead to significant academic, behavioral, and developmental challenges. 80% of learning is visual, so poor vision directly impacts a child's ability to learn and perform in school.
-
Widespread Problem: Vision disorders are the most prevalent disabling childhood conditions in the U.S., with roughly 25% of children experiencing issues.
-
Undetected Cases: Standard school screenings often miss up to 75% of vision issues because they only check distance vision, failing to identify focusing or tracking problems.
-
Access Barriers: Many children, particularly in low-income or rural areas, lack access to comprehensive eye exams by optometrists or ophthalmologists, which are necessary for diagnosis.
-
Lack of Resources: Families may face financial barriers to buying glasses, or children may not know they have a problem, assuming their blurry vision is normal
